ARTCARE

In addition to materials analysis Artcare undertakes archaeological investigations of painted schemes. This is typically in the architectural context but any painted object is accepted for study. The result of these studies is a detailed report in the appearance, and where required, material content of the painted scheme. The report combines technical study of paint sequences with historical data gathered from images and written accounts.

Colours are described in either CIELab or Munsell format and matched either form spectrophotometry or visual matching.

Findings are translated into systems that can be readily visualized  by the client and executed by decorators, for which we contribute a supervisory role in achieving satisfactory reproductions of colour texture and gloss.
